2015 Alberta Masters – RESULTS

The first ranking event of the Alberta snooker season for 2015/16 concluded Sunday, September 13th with provincial champion Tom Finstad defeating Paul Potier 5-2 in an enticing contest between two of Alberta’s most consistent players.

BUT PLEASE NOTE:
Due to a smaller draw than anticipated, there is an chance that this tournament could finish on Saturday and if all remaining players are in agreement, we could choose to play the final on Saturday night, which would save on travel expenses for out-of-town players and venue costs, thus increasing the prize pool. Time considerations will come into play, but this may be an option.

 

Alberta Billiards & Snooker Association – Annual General Meeting | 12 PM Sunday

An opportunity to meet and offer feedback to the association regarding cue sports in Alberta will occur at 12 PM on Sunday at the venue, regardless of whether or not the tournament has come to a close. If the tournament is over, you are invited to come down and enjoy some complimentary snooker on the tables until around 4pm when the meeting comes to a close.

The 2015/2016 snooker season in Alberta will begin with the 2015 ALBERTA MASTERS, a ranking event held at the Royal Canadian Legion in downtown Calgary!

FEES

ENTRY: $125

Each entry into the tournament includes an annual membership fee to the Alberta Billiards & Snooker Association (ABSA) of $25.00 which makes you eligible to enter ranking events throughout the year and each tournament you elect to play in carries a separate entry fee. Please note that going forward, players who played in previous ranking events have already paid their membership fee and only the $100 entry fee will be required to play in this event.

FORMAT

  • Maximum of 32 players
  • Single Elimination (plus a plate tournament for first-round losers) – guaranteed two matches minimum per player.
  • Best of 7 frames – the FINAL will be played over a Best of 9 frames.
  • First-round losers will be drawn into a plate tournament – all plate tournament matches will be a Best of 5 frames.

 


REGISTRATION

Registration is open to all members of the Alberta Billiards & Snooker Association with an active annual membership for the 2015/2016 season. A membership is valid from August 1st through to July 31st of the following calendar year and costs $25 annually.

If you are not yet a member, you can join by paying online in advance, or by paying the membership fee when you submit the entry fee for the first event you elect to play in.

To register for this event, you have three options:

  • REGISTER ONLINE: Sign up for an online account at albertasnooker.com and then click here to fill out a brief form confirming that you plan to enter. You can choose to pay your entry fee online, or in cash when you arrive at the venue.Please Note: If you have agreed to pay cash for your entry via the online registration system, you agree that you will be at the venue at the advertised start time with the full amount. You will not be permitted to play any tournament matches until the required entry fees are collected. Additionally, if you agree to pay cash and then do not show up at the venue, you will be barred from entering the next two ABSA ranking events.
  • E-MAIL: Send an e-mail to albertasnooker@gmail.com with the event you intend to play in, your full name and the city/town where you live. You will receive a confirmation e-mail when you have been added to the list of registered players. Please Note: Upon receiving confirmation, it is agreed that you intend to play in the event and will pay the required entry fee in cash upon arrival at the advertised start time. You will not be permitted to play any tournament matches until the required entry fees are collected. If you agree to play by e-mail and then do not show up at the venue, you will be barred from entering the next two ABSA ranking events.
  • PHONE: Alternatively, you can contact Randall Morrison by telephone at 403-399-1972 and express your intent to play. Please Note: Verbal confirmation by telephone is also an agreement that you intend to play in the event and pay the required entry fee in advance of playing any tournament matches. If you agree to play by phone and then do not show up at the venue, you will be barred from entering the next two ABSA ranking events.

2015 Alberta Snooker Championship – Match Schedule & Draw

This Friday, May 15th, the 2015 Alberta Snooker Championship will once again be contested at The Ranchmen’s Club in Calgary!

A full field of 24 players have signed up for this event and the winner will be crowned provincial champion and be allocated one paid spot to the 2015 Canadian Snooker Championships, held in Toronto June 7-14 at The Corner Bank

The final will be staged no earlier than 4:00 PM. If the semi-finals have not yet been completed, the final match will begin shortly thereafter. The final will be staged over a Best of 9 frames, with all other knockout matches played over a Best of 7.

 

 

Registration Fees & Venue


ENTRY FEE: $100
Annual Association Membership Fee*: $25

*The provincial association fee does not apply if you have already played to play in a ranking event during the 2014/2015 season.

Registration fees will be collected at the venue before you play your first match. No player will be allowed on a table before their registration fee is paid. Any failure to arrive at the venue on time for a match awards your opponent a walkover victory.

DRESS CODE REMINDER

All players shall adhere to the observed dress code, stipulating the following requirements:

  • SHIRTS: Must have a collar, must not be ripped or torn and bears no offensive slogans or material.
  • PANTS: Must be of a neat, casual appearance, bearing no offensive material. Denim or track pants are not permitted.
  • FOOTWEAR: No running shoes or sandals/thongs.
  • HATS/CAPS: Hats are not permitted.
  • Optional: Bowtie and waistcoat/cummerbund may be worn at the players’ discretion.

2015 AQS4 Calgary – RESULTS


2015 AQS4 Calgary – the final tournament in the 2015 Alberta Snooker Qualifying Series — was held April 11-12th at Leather Pocket Billiards with 23 entrants. Players were divided into four round-robin groups of five and six, each playing a Best of 3 frame match with the top two performers of each group advancing to Sunday’s single-elimination knockout round.

2015 Alberta Snooker Championship

The Alberta Billiards & Snooker Association is pleased to announce that the 2015 Alberta Snooker Championship, staged in association with HOME Investment Management Inc., will once again be held at The Ranchmen’s Club in Calgary.


Location & Directions

The Ranchmen’s Club is located at 710 13th Ave. SW in Calgary, Alberta. MAP

Parking is available to all players and spectators on the lower 2 levels of the attached parkade–the door to the parking garage will open automatically as you drive up to it.

Enter through the main doors and the front desk personnel will direct you to the Billiard Room.

Tournament Format

The 2015 Alberta Snooker Championship will be played in two stages:

GROUP STAGE

Registered players will be divded into 4 seeded groups of 6. Each player will be scheduled to play a best-of-3 frame match with each member of their group at designated times on designated tables. It is recommended that you arrive at the venue up to an hour in advance of your first scheduled match time, as all table assignments and scheduling considerations are subject to change based on availability.

Seeding Note: The #1 seed is held for the reigning provincial champion, regardless of rank.

KNOCKOUT ROUND

At the conclusion of the round-robin stage, the top two finishers in each group will advance to an eight-man single-elimination knockout bracket to be played out on Sunday, May 17th.

 

Quarterfinals and semi-finals will be contested over a Best of 7 frames. Winners of each respective semi-final match advance to the FINALS, a Best of 9 frame contest held at 4:30 PM, Sunday, May 17th.

Sixteen of the 24 available spots are reserved for the Top 16 players per the Alberta Snooker Rankings, or the sixteen highest-ranked players to register prior to the deadline. Any unclaimed spots, as well as the additional 8 spots, are open to all ranked and unranked Alberta residents.

Please note: If you are an unranked Alberta resident and 8 other unranked players have registered in advance of you, your spot may be claimed by a ranked player prior to the deadline and you will be notified as such.

SUNDAY, MAY 17th – Knockout Rounds

9:30 AM – QUARTER-FINALS
Eight players will advance to the knockout stage and play four matches starting in the morning on Sunday. The four matches will be played simultaneously.

12:30 PM – SEMI-FINALS

Semi-final matches between the final four competitors will be staged at approximately 12:30 PM on the Sunday.

4:30 PM – FINALS
The final match will be staged on the main table at approximately 4:00 PM.

Participants and spectators are encouraged to stay and watch the final stages of the tournament and the presentation of the trophy to the winner. Prize money will be distributed amongst all of the finalists at the conclusion of the match.

FOOD & BEVERAGE SERVICE

Spectators and players are welcome to take advantage of a variety of food and beverage options available in the adjacent Wolves Den dining room throughout the day on Friday and Saturday. Servers will be on duty to take drink orders and refresh the water and coffee station.

PLEASE NOTE: There will be no food service available in the Wolves Den on Sunday. Guests are welcome to purchase food from outside establishments to eat in the venue. An assortment of chips and nuts will be available and there will be a server on duty to take drink orders and refresh the water and coffee station.
